  • One Piece is a golden example of how to adapt an anime into live-action. The series is both faithful to it's source material, yet still feels accessible to those who may be newcomers to the quest for the One Piece. It doesn't trade any of the charming, larger than life moments for grounded and grittier realism, and embraces it no matter how exaggerated things may be. From the cast to the production design, every element makes the journey one to remember, and hopefully one that will last a long time.

  • While One Piece's live-action adaptation has problems with its pacing and writing, it does a great job of capturing the humor, heart, and overall aesthetic of the legendary manga, mostly because it understands that the best way to adapt a story like One Piece is to just try and stick as close to the source material as possible. Live-action anime adaptations have an infamous reputation among fans and critics, but One Piece is one of the few examples to actually get it right.

  • Better than it had any right to be especially surprising since it was a Netflix production. Not a huge fan of the anime so I didn't have terribly high expectations to begin with. Luffy is so charming in this one. Looking forward to the next season.

  • An incredible amount of care and attention clearly went into creating the first season of the One Piece live-action series on Netflix, and the results are outstanding. It's a series that rewards hardcore fans with clever set designs and easter eggs for fans to recognize. While some changes to Eiichiro Oda's story were implemented to help with the live-action pacing, the series effectively captures the heart and sense of adventure that oozes from both the manga and anime. It's a great beginning to the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Crew.

Based on the popular manga/anime series, One Piece is a live-action Netflix adaptation of the story from Eiichiro Oda. The show follows the exploits of a band of pirates, the Straw Hats, led by the energetic and adventure-loving Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy is a young man cursed with strange powers after accidentally eating a mysterious fruit. With his friends Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji, Luffy will head across the vast ocean to find the legendary treasure, the One Piece.
