Silicon Beach’s effect on Westside real estate grows

In the year since Google purchased property in Playa Vista, and Snapchat expanded its headquarters in Venice, locals and experts alike have seen a trickle-down effect from the growth of the “Silicon Beach” movement. The cluster of tech companies on the Westside, widely recognized as second only to Silicon Valley as a location for tech startups, has brought an infusion of cash to the area, and caused an increased demand for commercial real estate. Even the suburban neighborhoods of Westchester have seen the prices for single family residences climb 25% in two years, as engineers and tech executives seek homes near their growing businesses. The trend is expected to continue as companies that would otherwise locate in San Francisco, view Southern California as a more affordable alternative.
